A dedicated team of unsung heroes provides manual and mechanical cleansing of public areas, commencing at 0600, 364 days per year whatever the weather.
Among the tasks carried out are:
- mechanical sweeping of roads, car parks and runways
- litter collection
- path clearance and de-weeding
- cleaning public and private parking areas and public conveniences
- refuse collection from litter bins
- contract work
- the provision of Eurobins and collection services to both public and private clients.
High-pressure street washing is also undertaken and takes place in less accessible Town areas, such as steps, venelles, the Commercial Arcade and pavements of shopping streets. Rural road cleaning maintains the network of lanes by removing the build-up of leaves, weeds and mud.
Litter bin provision and specialist cleaning services are available on contract to public and private clients.
Cleansing Section staff are in attendance at many of the islands main events, but carry out their work in the background to minimise any inconvenience and keep disruption to a minimum.
